Our story
Built in 2008 to do commercial solar right.
John McDonnell and Barry Coe founded SunRenu in 2008, at a moment when commercial solar in Arizona was still mostly a promise. They had a simple thesis: most installers were treating commercial projects like oversized residential jobs, but in order to do them correctly and safely, its an industrial niche electrical project. Commercial buyers needed engineering rigor, financing expertise, and a single team accountable end-to-end from engineering to proper commissioning.
18 years later, that thesis has compounded into 47 MW of installed capacity across 680 commercial projects in Arizona and California — schools, churches, automotive plants, logistics hubs, sports facilities, and municipalities. The team has grown to 25 in-house staff. No subcontractor handoffs. No middlemen.
SunRenu is licensed in Arizona (ROC) and California (CSLB), NABCEP-certified at the installer level, and specializes exclusively in commercial. No residential installations, only residential solar service and maintenance. We are good at what we do and stay in our lane.
